Snap-In Dentures vs Traditional Dentures

by Dr. Jared Schmitt, Seaglass Dental Care
If you have ever considered dentures or currently are using dentures you may know of the many pitfalls that can come with them. Conventional dentures can cause difficulty with speaking or eating for some individuals. Stability, or lack thereof, can be a serious cause for concern in some patients. The AAP has mentioned that traditional dentures can cause a weakening or even a total loss of the jawbone. Unfortunately, until now, one of the best alternatives to traditional dentures has long been overwhelmingly expensive and therefore not a viable option for many people.

Introducing Snap-On Dentures by Seaglass Dental Care

Snap-on dentures (also known as snap-in dentures or denture overtures) are a revolutionary alternative to traditional dentures. Snap-in dentures are a type of implant that provide physical support through metal implants that are attached directly to the bone in your mouth. These implants are inserted directly to the jawbone and provide an attachment for the dentures to ‘snap’ into. Typically speaking there are four implants placed on the top and/or bottom of the mouth. This provides patients with a much much stable and versatile option for dentures. Snap-in dentures also provide a variety of benefits in comparison to traditional dentures.

Snap-In Denture Benefits vs Traditional Dentures

  1. Increased stability
  2. Longer lasting
  3. Easier ability to chew
  4. More of a natural look
  5. Easier access for self-cleaning
  6. More comfortable
  7. Better Jawbone preservation

Procedure Process for Snap-In Dentures

The procedure for snap-in dentures involves several different steps.

  1. First you’ll set up a free consultation with Dr. Schmitt.
  2. Next we will take care of your exam and xrays. Exams and xrays are always free for new patients at Seaglass Dental Care. We also offer flexible payment plan options and can help answer any pre-procedure questions you may have.
  3. If teeth are present they will be removed and implants placed and you will go home with an immediate denture. If you don’t have teeth, the implants will be placed.
  4. Based on health conditions and how tight the implants are, you will heal for 4-6 months the implants will be exposed and the locators placed.
  5. A denture will then be fabricated to engage the implants.
  6. Adjustments are sometimes required to fine tune the bite and fit.

The only maintenance required is a once yearly cleaning of the implants and denture, as well as changing the nylons in the denture that engage the implants.

Price of Snap-In Dentures

Pricing for snap-in dentures can vary from practice to practice. The state average for snap-on dental implants is around $12,000 to $15,000 per arch (top or bottom of mouth). However, at Seaglass Dental Care we currently offer a fixed price for snap-in dentures. Our special rate of $6,995 includes one arch (top or bottom), four full size dental implants, abutments and the denture. If you currently have teeth that need to be removed, there is a charge for the extraction of the teeth and we will also provide you with a healing/immediate use denture in the price of the extractions.
