People all over the world have been drinking tea for thousands of years… and for many good reasons. Many studies have shown that a variety of teas can fight off inflammation, boost your immune system, and even ward off heart disease and cancer. Some brews provide more health benefits than others, and there is plenty of evidence that drinking tea can have an impact on your wellness.
Drinking tea is one of the simplest ways to slow down, savor the moment, and connect with the magic of plants. Whether enjoyed as a part of your morning routine, a moment of tranquility in the middle of a busy day, or a way to unwind and relax in the evening, the many benefits of tea can be treasured all day long. So, put the kettle on, and let me share with you some of my tea-licious teas.
Peppermint Tea
Peppermint contains menthol, which soothes an upset stomach, helps with nausea, motion sickness, irritable bowel syndrome and offers pain relief from tension headaches and migraines. Its minty taste freshens the breath, reduces stress and improves nasal airflow.
Green Tea
Green tea is often touted as the healthiest tea. It is chock full of antioxidants and polyphenols that help to boost brain and heart health. Green tea is high in flavonoids that helps lower your bad cholesterol and reduce blood clotting. Green tea is also considered one of the least processed true teas as it does not undergo oxidation. Leaves are harvested and immediately dried and rolled.
Hibiscus Tea
This deep red tea comes with a tart flavor and is delicious when served over ice. It is one of my favorites. Not only is it super refreshing, but it is an amazing healing tonic for the body. In fact, in Ancient Egypt it was used as a remedy against fever. Most importantly, hibiscus tea reduces blood pressure and cholesterol and is full of antioxidants. It contains anti-bacterial properties and aids in digestion and weight loss.
Chamomile Tea
The daisy-like yellow and white flowers add comfort and color to this wonderful tea. It is made from dried chamomile flowers, is soothing and helps calm skin problems, contributes to better sleep, lowers blood sugar, improves heart health, and manages digestive issues. I like to drink this tea before bed. It really helps calm my mind and relax my body, thereby reducing stress. Steep dreams!
Turmeric Tea
I have a recipe for an amazing latte in my cookbook that is incredibly healing and tastes great. Turmeric power has many healing benefits, which include powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric is also known to help give your immune system a boost. It helps combat arthritis, protects against liver damage, and may prevent heart disease. Turmeric Tea also helps manage lung ailments. Yes, it surely does have magical properties.
As you know, there are a number of herbal teas, all with unique benefits. Drinking tea can generate a whole world of health benefits. Whatever area of your body you want to heal, take a look at what tea can do, put on your kettle, and have a brew-tiful day.
Honey and Mint Iced Green Tea Recipe
I love to make honey and mint iced green tea, it becomes this magical drink that is so light and crisp.
- Brew a concentrate. Use 2 quarts of water, bring it to a boil, remove from heat and add about 6 to 7 bags of green tea. Let it steep for 10-15 minutes. Remove the bags.
- Sweeten it up. I use a little honey, but you can use whatever sweetener you choose (stevia, maple syrup, monk fruit).
- Assemble it. Fill your cup about 1/3 of the way full of some of the green tea concentrate. Add mint, top with ice and water and stir. Viola!
I put mine in mason jars. Then when you want a glass, fill it up about 1/3-1/2 of the way with the concentrate, add ice, mint, and water, stir and you’re good to go!
When you’re craving something that’s a little bit sweet and refreshing, give this iced green tea with mint and honey a try! I know you’ll love the crisp, clean taste!
